CLASS A FIRES involve solid materials of an organic nature such as wood, paper, cloth, rubber and plastics that do not melt. Also known as a Structural Fire, a Class A Fire may affect the structure of a building and require added attention as the integrity of the building has been compromised. Flames on your property involving plants, trees or bushes are also considered Class A Fires.
CLASS B FIRES involve liquids. They include petrol, diesel, thinners, oils, paints, wax, cooking fat and plastics that melt. If living tissue, hair proteins, stove-top greases or burned or charred meats are involved, a Class B Fire, also known as a Protein Fire, has occured.
CLASS C FIRES involve electricity.
CLASS D FIRES involve flammable metals such as magnesium, aluminium, titanium, sodium and potassium.
