Flood & Sewer Damage Cleanup

TO MINIMIZE DAMAGE - ACT QUICKLY !

Talk to your insurance agent or broker. Waste water or sewage back-up damage may be covered by your insurance policy. (Water seeping into a residential basement is not eligible because this type of damage is very common.)

Phone your insurance company and report the damage. Photograph the damage and keep all receipts for any expenses or sampling costs you incur. Keep a record of any property you dispose of for health or safety reasons. Protect yourself with PPE, Personal Protective Equipment, by wearing coveralls, rubber boots, gloves and a facial mask or respirator if possible (this will prevent the inhalation of fine water droplets and dust).

Be aware that prohibited materials or substances, such as raw sewage and/or other waste water that contains soaps, detergents or hydrocarbons, collected during a clean-up by any means, i.e. wet/dry vacuum, bucket, etc., may be disposed of into a sanitary line, floor drain or toilet (provided the previously blocked line is operational). Prohibited materials are not allowed on any portion of a street or to be discharged into the storm drainage collection system.

Dry out your home and remove mildew by lowering the humidity. Open the outside doors and windows, the interior closet doors and cabinets, run a dehumidifier and circulate the air with fans.
